Piatella is a modern style of hash that has become a benchmark among connoisseurs. Instead of being pressed with heat like traditional hash, the resin is ice-water extracted and then cold-cured: aged slowly in airtight, low-temperature conditions. This gentle process preserves the terpenes that heat normally destroys, which is why Piatella keeps a soft, almost creamy texture and such an intense aroma.

Piatella or piattella: how this hash is made

Piatella hash is a hash that matures in the cold instead of drying. It starts as a full melt bubble hash made from fresh plants frozen right after harvest: the resin is vacuum-sealed, then left to cure at a steady 4 to 10 °C for four to six weeks, until it turns smooth and creamy. The name comes from the Italian piatto, meaning flat, because it cures in flat slabs. In Italian it is spelled piattella, with a double t; outside Italy it is almost always written piatella. Don’t confuse it with rosin, which is made with heat and pressure: piatella is defined by their absence.
